Studio Ghibli to Release Two New Movies in 2013

Studio Ghibli will be releasing two new movies in 2013.
What’s special about this release is that these two movies will be released simultaneously. Fans of the studio might know that this has only happened once before. In 1988 Studio Ghibli released both My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies.
These two new movies will be based on two completely different events. The first movie, titled Kaze Tachinu will be directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The movie, which also translates to The Wind Has Risen, will be based off of a manga series focusing on the life of Jiro Horikoshi. Horikoshi was the chief engineer of Japan’s zero fighter planes which was used in WWII.
The other movie will be based off of the folk tale Taketori Monogatari. This movie will be directed by Isao Takahata, which makes his comeback into the world of cinema after his 14 year absence. This movie will be titled Kaguya hime no Monogatari, which translates to The Story of Princess Kaguya.
