EA Discontinuing Online Passes
EA is discontinuing its online pass program for future games due to negative response from players.
“Yes, we’re discontinuing Online Pass,” EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg told VentureBeat. “None of our new EA titles will include that feature.”
As Gematsu puts it: “Online Passes are redeem codes included with new copies of EA titles, like Battlefield 3 or Dead Space 3, required to access a game’s online features. If you purchased a used copy of a game, you’d have to pay $10 to purchase an Online Pass to access its online features.”
“Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format,” Reseburg said. “We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”

Dead Space 3′s Infinite Resources Glitch Isn’t Actually A Glitch
A supposed glitch in Dead Space 3 isn’t actually a glitch. The DS3 “glitch” allows you to infinitely farm resources which will always respawn.
Visceral Games stated the following:
“The resource-earning mechanic in Dead Space 3 is not a glitch. We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game. We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free. We’ve deliberately designed Dead Space 3 to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game. For those that wish to accumulate upgrades instantly, we have enabled an optional system for them to buy the resources at a minimal cost ($1-$3).”
Dead Space 3′s Action a “Necessary Evil”
According to Dead Space 3 writer Antony Johnston has claimed the action aspect of the game was required, or a “necessary evil”.
“I’m personally a big fan of old-school survival horror, and that was one of the main reasons I wanted to work on Dead Space. So the greater emphasis on big action in the sequels means they’re not really for me,” Johnston said.
He furthermore stated that the action part of the game is required to bring in more fans.
“I know the developers always wanted to go bigger, in terms of scope. And I’ve mentioned before that the universe we created was huge, with lots of elements, which simply didn’t make it into the first game,” he said. “So to get that story told, to round out the universe, it was inevitable the settings and environments would open out a bit, become a bit more epic in scale…otherwise you’d just have the same game on a different ship each time, and that’s pretty dull.”
Dead Space 3 DLC Announced
A Dead Space 3 DLC will be released by EA in March.
The Awakened DLC pack promises to show you the darkest chapter of the franchise as “Necromorph battles become even more gruesome and terrifying than ever before.”
The DLC will be released through Origin for PC and PS3 for $9.99 and on Xbox 360 for 800 Microsoft Points.
Dead Space 3 Developer Defends PC Port
Dead Space 3‘s executive producer Steve Papoutsis has responded to a previously released statement, which states that the PC version will be a simply port. When asked why PC fans will not be able to enjoy a fully optimized PC version, Papoutsis said, ”by no means [is the PC version] any less important to us; it gets a lot of attention. The PC is a very different platform. As developers, you want to deliver an experience that’s as similar as possible on different platforms.”
To evolve our games as we develop them,” added Papoutsis, “but we certainly don’t target PC as something that’s going to be significantly different. We aren’t trying to create disparity in the experience that our gamers enjoy; we want to make sure everyone’s having that same experience.”
