Ubisoft Planning Movies for Watch Dogs, Far Cry and Rabbids

Ubisoft Planning Movies for Watch Dogs, Far Cry and Rabbids

Ubisoft is planning on making movies for not only Watch Dogs, but also Far Cry and Rabbids.  The gaming studio previously packaged deals for Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell at New Regency.

The Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender will be released on Memorial Day 2015. The Splinter Cell movie will star Tom Hardy. Both of the actors are also attached as producers to the projects.  Michael Bay will be developing Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon into a potential film franchise at Warner Bros., Ubisoft has announced. Ubisoft is currently in talks with Frank Marshall and Basil Iwanyk to serve as producers for two movies, respectively.

Ubisoft will retain the creative control over the movies for Watch Dogs, Far Cry and Rabbids. This means a special division will hire screenwriters, directors, cast and choose the production shingles and studios. Ubisoft will fiance the scripts.

The plan for Rabbids is for it to be a live-action film featuring the rabbits as CG characters, similar to The Smurfs or Alvin and the Chipmunks. The movies will not be retelling the games, but will feature a completely new plot.

Leonardo DiCaprio Starring as Rasputin in Warner Bros Movie

Leonardo DiCaprio Starring as Rasputin in Warner Bros Movie

Leonardo DiCaprio will be playing Rasputin in a new movie in development by Warner Bros. Rasputin is the “Russian mystic who became an advisor to the Russian Imperial family, The Romanovs, before being brutally killed.”

The script is written by Jason Hall.  The movie is being produced by Appian Way‘s Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Peter Morgan and Langley Park‘s Kevin McCormick. DiCaprio’s interest was apparently sparked due to “new elements  unearthed by Hall”.

The new elements gave apsychological depth to the so called ‘mad monk.’ To his enemies, he was a charlatan who prolifically bedded women… DiCaprio liked the complicated elements of a child who lost the better part of himself when his brother died, and was capable of kindness but also a ruthlessness.”

So far there is no director attached to the project.

The Need for Speed movie is going to be filmed in  the Columbus, Georgia area on the 13th Street Bridge. The movie will be filmed from Tuesday to Saturday. Among the stars starring in the movie we find  Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Michael Keaton (Batman, Beetlejuice),and Dominic Cooper (Captain America, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).

If you’re really lucky you might be able to catch a glimpse of the car McLaren P1 (see image above). The Dreamworks film is directed by Scott Waugh.

Apparently the scene filmed will involve a crash, which is why the bridge over the  Chattahoochee River is closed off. Other scenes will also be filmed in other towns in Georgia such as Macon and Rome.

As for the movie, it’s expect to launch on February 7th, 2014 in theaters.

Disney Infinity Delayed Until August

Disney Infinity

Disney Infinity has been delayed to August.

The delay was apparently due a request from retailers, since the August release is closer to the Holiday season. Originally it was supposed to coincide with the June release of the film Monster’s University.

“We could deliver in June if we wanted to,” says co-president John Pleasants. “Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops.”

Disney Infinite will be released to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. The game will launch on August 18th in North America and on August 20th elsewhere.

Ken Levine Kills BioShock Film Adaption

BioShock Film

Irrational GamesKen Levine has killed off BioShock‘s film adaption.

At one point the movie seemed to have a fighting chance as  Gore Verbinski was the director, however, he later withdrew from the film project. A new director was assigned, but the movie just fell apart. Ultimately it was Levine’s decision to either push the movie or let it go completely.

In an interview with Eurogamer, when asked about the film Levine said, “2K’s one of these companies that puts a lot of creative trust in people. So they said if you want to kill it, kill it. And I killed it.”

Are you awfully disappointed?
